After living in California, where there was both wine and liquor available in the grocery store, I moved to South Carolina. I was still able to purchase wine in the grocery store, but I had to visit a liquor store to buy a little brandy or cognac every now and then. I also had to deal with the blue laws, which depending on the county I was in, prevented me from purchasing anything other than food until around noon.
On to Maryland where both wine and liquor had to be purchased outside of the grocery store. Everything was fine until I found myself with my 1st grader and needed to grab a bottle of wine from the wine shop/liquor store. I rarely found myself in that situation, but when I did, it always felt like I was on some secret mission where he had to be absolutely silent while following me into the store.
Now I'm back in the south. I live in Florida where I can buy wine in the grocery store, but I don't have to deal with any blue laws like I did in South Carolina. It seems kind of silly, but I was so happy to be able to buy a bottle of pinot noir, while shopping for random bulk goods in Sam's Club.
